Participants will review essential procedures in smear preparation, staining, slide reading, and accurate interpretation of Acid-Fast Bacilli (AFB) results for the detection of Mycobacterium species. The course also addresses troubleshooting of common laboratory errors, bio safety practices to prevent laboratory-acquired infections, and current TB diagnostic guidelines. Emphasis is placed on strengthening competency, confidence, and consistency in reporting results while applying quality assurance and quality control practices within routine laboratory workflows.
Target Audience
Laboratory technologists, technicians, microscopists, and laboratory supervisors involved in TB smear microscopy and tuberculosis diagnostic services.
Learning Outcomes
Participants will be able to:
- Prepare and stain high-quality smears for AFB detection.
